Have you been thinking about hiring a virtual assistant? Don’t.(but you really should) Let me tell you 4 reasons not to hire an assistant.(Did you hear me you really should)
I can do it myself
I am proud to say my son does chores. I feel it is my job as a parent to get my son ready to be an adult. Showing and teaching him how to handle day to day tasks is one of the many ways I am getting him ready for the real world. But I have a secret, I give him chores I HATE doing. I am a happier Mom because these chores get done and I don’t have to do them.
Are you doing day to day tasks you hate doing? Why? They are time consuming. You HATE doing them.
I don’t know how to do it but I can learn
My husband and I are largely Do-It-Yourselfers. Last spring, I awoke to no hot water(dunt dunt dun). I must have stood at the kitchen sink for 10 minutes praying it wasn’t true. Our water heater was fairly new so I was really praying that we did not need a new one. My husband did his checklist of things. Then told me to call the gas company to have someone come check it out because it was either “A” or “B”. He did not know how to fix it either one. Long story short. They fixed it and it was a quick fix. The money we spent on it was worth it in my eyes because if my husband had made the attempt at fixing it the time and money would have been greater(not to mention NO HOT WATER ).
Do you have the time/money to learn something new? A web designer, a bookkeeper, social media expert sure you can learn how to do these things but it takes time away from you doing what you do best. Is it good for your business in the long run?
I have to do this myself
For four years I was a committee member of a very large Cub Scout Pack. The committee consisted of a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, achievement chairperson, and recruitment chairperson. We were in charge of decisions for the Pack and how it ran. Now, the Chairperson would pick up and do many things other people could do. After a year or so of doing this she got wise and got more people to volunteer. Therefore, she was not so overwhelmed and she could enjoy her time as the Chairperson/volunteer/scout parent. Not to mention it was better for the Pack and it’s future.
Are you doing something you are not suppose to be doing? Again, time and money wasted. You can use this time and money in more productive ways to better your business and make it more enjoyable.
Finding the right person is hard
I am a shy person at times. In college I had a hard time making friends at the beginning. After a month of just going to class and staying in my room I decided I needed to make some friends so I ventured out into our dorm suite (a common area). I was welcomed and became friends with everyone in our suite especially my now life long friend Chris. Had I not put on my brave girl pants on I would have lost out on this wonderful friendship.
Would you be a business owner if it was easy? Probably not. Yes, finding someone that “gets you” and your business is hard work. But when you do, it is priceless and they can help take your business to the next level.
So, did you find a GREAT reason to hire an assistant? My favorite one is hire someone to do the jobs you HATE. If you have jobs you HATE to do or any other reason click here to see my services.
Thanks for stopping by.
